In news that will surprise and delight 80s and 90s pop lovers, electrifying duo Roxette is touring Australia next year. The announcement comes eight years after what many thought was the band’s final shows, and five years after the tragic death of original singer Marie Fredriksson, who passed away after a battle with cancer.

But it seems the legend of Roxette is set to continue, with frontman, songwriter and founder Per Gessle resurrecting the band and hitting the road next year. While Fredriksson can never be replaced, Gessle has done a great job by recruiting Swedish singer and megastar Lena Philipsson. A successful singer in her home country, Philipsson is best known outside of Sweden for competing in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest.

Also part of this new ensemble are Christoffer Lundquist, Magnus Börjeson, Per “Norpan” Eriksson and Dea Norberg, while original Roxette members Clarence Öfwerman and Jonas Isacsson return.

The 2025 tour includes eight dates, with six headline shows and two A Day of the Green performances. The first show takes play at Perth’s Kings Park and Botanic Garden on Wednesday, March 5. Roxette then make their way to Melbourne and play Margaret Court Arena on Friday, March 7 before heading to Sydney’s ICC Sydney Theatre on Saturday, 8 March, Wollongong’s WIN Entertainment Centre on Sunday, 9 March, Adelaide’s Entertainment Centre on Tuesday, 11 March and Hobart’s Mystate Bank Arena on Thursday, 13 March.

The two A Day On The Green dates take place at Bimbadgen in the Hunter Valley on Saturday, 15 March and Sirromet Wines at Mount Cotton on Sunday, 16 March.

Roxette won’t be alone on their Australian tour, with local legends Boom Crash Opera appearing at all shows and the great Jon Stevens playing the Perth show along with the two A Day On the Green concerts.

“This is all about my Roxette songs, this huge bundle of music and lyrics I’ve been writing for well over three decades,” Gessle said in a press release about the tour. “I’m not starting a new duo. Marie will always be irreplaceable. However, I’m really lucky to have found an amazing voice and a brilliant performer in Lena Philipsson.

“I co-wrote Lena’s first major hit back in 1986, and she’s one of the brightest shining stars Sweden has ever known. I’m extremely proud she wants to join me in my trek to keep the Roxette legacy alive.”

Philipsson added, “I’m both excited and thrilled about embarking on this tour. I really look forward to working with Per – he is a phenomenal songwriter and a never-ending musical force.”

Roxette formed in 1986 after Fredriksson and Gessle, both successful solo artists in their own right, collaborated on the hit single ‘Neverending Love’. This led to the duo taking the name Roxette and the rest, as they say, is history.

The band went on to sell over 80 million records worldwide, scoring 19 UK Top 40 hit singles and four #1 singles on the US Billboard Chart. Fans attending Roxette’s Australian tour can expect to hear all the big hits, including ‘The Look’, ‘It Must Have Been Love’, ‘Joyride’, ‘Dressed For Success', 'Listen To Your Heart', 'Dangerous', 'Fading Like A Flower', and more.
