SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS 2024 CANCELLED

The iconic festival was scheduled to take place at North Byron Parklands from Friday July 19 to Sunday July 1.

Splendour in the Grass 2024 has officially been cancelled.

After Tone Deaf broke the news earlier today that the Byron Bay-based festival won’t be going ahead, Splendour organisers have now released an official statement confirming this news.

“With a heavy heart, we’re announcing the cancellation of Splendour in the Grass 2024, originally scheduled from Friday 19 July to Sunday 21 July in Ngarindjin/North Byron Parklands,” the statement reads.

“We know there were many fans excited for this year’s line-up and all the great artists planning to join us, but due to unexpected events, we’ll be taking the year off.”

The statement goes on to say, “Ticket holders will be refunded automatically by Moshtix. We thank you for your understanding and will be working hard to be back in future years.”

Co-CEO’s of Secret Sounds, Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco also put out a statement: “We’re heartbroken to be missing a year, especially after more than two decades in operation. This festival has always been a huge community effort, and we’d like to thank everyone for their support and overall faith. We hope to be back in the future.”

The shock announcement comes just two weeks after the stacked lineup dropped, with pop princess Kylie Minogue, Atlanta rapper Future and indie stalwarts Arcade Fire headlining. The lineup also included a slew of Aussie talent, including G Flip, Tash Sultana, Pond, Tones And I, Polaris, Thelma Plum and more.

The news comes as a blow to music lovers after the recent cancellation of Groovin’ the Moo and leaves the Australian festival scene balancing on a knife edge.

Although the statement and quote from Ducrou and Piticco both end with the hope that the festival will return in future years, there are grave fears this could be the final nail in the coffin of Australia’s premier festival.

The Note will continue to update you on the details behind the festival’s cancellation when more news comes to hand.
