‘I Guess You Were Right’ signifies a sonic progression for Purée, as textures of synth and backing vocals constitute a cleverly crafted arrangement that builds on the guitar-band formula.
The band offset sombre lyrical content with boppy soft rock instrumentals reminiscent of Spacey Jane. While frontman Matt Holland’s impassioned vocals express the floodgates opening after battling to deny heartbreak. A dynamic percussion section courtesy of Liam Woolcock shifts between lo-fi and expansive, furthering the impact of densely layered singyour-heart-out choruses. Purée delivers a captivating indie-pop anthem, with polished production and tangible passion.
