Unreleased Mark Lanegan Tune ‘Heard a Train’ Released
The song is taken from the forthcoming reissue of his 2004 album, Bubblegum.
‘Heard a Train’ is a previously unreleased Mark Lanegan song taken from the reissue of his acclaimed 2004 album, Bubblegum. The track is the first taste of unreleased music from Lanegan since his passing in 2022 at the age of 57.
The release of ‘Heard a Train’ comes ahead of the 20th anniversary of Lanegan’s Bubblegum, which is being reissued as Bubblegum XX – a box set including a remastered version of the EP Here Comes That Weird Chill (Methamphetamine Blues, Extras & Oddities) and 12 previously unreleased songs, including a duet with Beck.
Released by Beggars Arkive in conjunction with the Estate of Mark Lanegan, Bubblegum XX drops on August 23 (you can pre-order here) and will be available as a double LP edition or a 4XLP/3CD/Digital release that includes 40 remastered tracks.
The 4XLP box set also comes with a 64-page hardcover book that includes essays from Lanegan’s former peers and collaborators, such as Josh Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen and Duff McKagan, along with previously unseen photos shot by Steve Gullick.
An excerpt from the hardcover book featured on Lanegan’s website details Homme’s reaction to the title of the album: “When he told me: ‘I’m calling it Bubblegum’, I was like you’re a sick fuck, because I knew him so that’s funny to me, ‘cause Lanegan wanted to be a new piece of bubblegum on a sunny happy day. But he was the gum underneath the desk. He was the bubblegum underneath the table. He was the dark Lord.”
Bubblegum XX is released on August 23. You can pre-order the album here and listen to ‘Heard a Train’ below.
