Melbourne all-rounder Harvey Sutherland, aka Mike Katz, has released his sophomore album, Debt.
Arriving via his own Clarity Recordings imprint, the album is ten tracks of good vibes, with the producer, DJ and instrumentalist delivering a dancefloor-ready fusion of disco, funk and dance.
Arriving alongside the album is lead single ‘Body Language’, a playful groover featuring The Presets’ Julian Hamilton.
The track was one of the first laid down for the album, Sutherland explains. “I had these chords floating around for a year or so. Played them for Jules during a writing day at his place in Sydney. He found a great melody almost instantly. I kept hearing the words ‘reading your body language’ in his early phrases so we kept pushing at it. I think it’s the singular moment of IRL collaboration on this album — nice to do things old-school with one of the great Australian songwriters.”
Hamilton had this to say about the collab: “I have always been a huge fan of Mike’s music. We spent a couple of days in my studio in Sydney and bashed out a few tracks together…It was super easy and fun - and I can hear that joy in the finished song 'Body Language’. I am so proud of this track and can't wait for folks to hear it. Big love Mike!”
Those living on the East Coast can catch Sutherland playing a bunch of shows next month. Catch him at the Beach Hotel in Byron Bay on Friday 7 November, La La Land in Brisbane on Saturday 8 November, The Night Cat in Melbourne on Friday 14 November and a soon-to-be-announced venue in Sydney on Saturday 15 November.
Tickets are on sale now via harveysuther.land.
