Grab your lightsabre and prepare to channel the Force – Star Wars is coming back to the big screen!

Palace Nova Eastend Cinemas is proud to present two Star Wars marathons this May to celebrate the famous science fiction series.

On Saturday May 4, known amongst Star Wars fans as May the Fourth, the original trilogy will play in Adelaide's largest cinema screen. Then on the following day, Sunday May 5 (nicknamed Revenge of the Fifth), the prequel trilogy will screen in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

If you’re unaware of the Star Wars franchise and the impact it continues to have on pop culture, then you’ve probably been hiding out on Tatooine for too long.

Released in 1977, Episode IV: A New Hope was a surprise hit at the box office. Written and directed by George Lucas, the film is a swashbuckling space adventure following the journey of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo amidst the backdrop of a galactic war between the Rebel Alliance and the evil Empire. A New Hope was followed by the darker Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 which saw Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine’s grip on the universe tighten. The final film in the trilogy, Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, was released in 1983 and culminated in a showdown between Jedi warrior Skywalker and his father Vader.

It took over 15 years for Lucas to be persuaded to return to the Star Wars universe and continue the story. What he delivered was a prequel trilogy focusing on Anakin Skywalker’s transformation into Darth Vader as he turns to the dark side of the Force. Aimed at children, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace came out in 1999 and became another box office smash. Two more films followed – Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) – and although both made millions, neither were well received by critics or fans, although the prequel trilogy is seen in a much better light now than when first release.

Both of these special screening marathons are sure to sell out fast, so make sure you get your tickets ASAP.

And may the Force be with you!

Tickets for both showings are on sale now via Palace Nova Cinemas, with the original trilogy starting at 11am on Saturday May 4 and the prequel trilogy at 11am on Sunday May 5.
