On the Road with TONIX & Pash

Two of SA’s fastest rising bands – Tonix and Pash – are hitting the road this summer for a nine-date tour that ticks off regional hotspots like Mount Gambier. Here, Archie McEwan and Nic Bergoc unpack what to expect from their Sunny Soundsystem shows…

We’re stoked to see you’re heading to so many regional places this tour. Why was this priority for you both?

Archie (Tonix): As a band, we’ve had some great experiences in so many of these places [including] growing up with Generations In Jazz in Mount Gambier. There’s a big market beyond Adelaide and playing at festivals like Space Jams, Dougstock, and South East Beer & BBQ has taught us that.

Nic (Pash): SA’s regional populations are often untapped by local bands. With this tour we’re looking at opening these pathways again and getting the music scenes in these towns pumping. Including these towns and venues provides the music lovers there more live music and it’s beneficial for bands to build a broader fanbase – a win-win for everyone

What are the benefits of touring together to promote your regional shows?

Archie: We just seem to click. Sure, there’s a lot of benefit that comes from co-promoting the shows and reaching out to two different audiences, but I think what really matters is that we love the music [Pash] are making and the people they are.

Nic: Having another like-minded band that’s as talented as Tonix inspires us to push ourselves, as well as doubling the amount of passion, fun and audience pools needed for a tour.

What are you most looking forward to in Mount Gambier?

Archie: Tonix have played two shows down in the Mount now, and probably 10 more with all three of us involved with Generations In Jazz. We can’t go without stopping by the Naracoorte Swimming Lake or Umpherston Sinkhole, where we cooled off after our 40-degree show at Beer & BBQ Fest in March ’24. We’re keen to play with Sexy As Shit and have a party.

Nic: Pash is a band of wine lovers, so it’ll be difficult to pull us out of Mount Gambier’s wineries…

What can we expect for your co-headline Sunny Soundsystem tour?

Archie: Tonix, Pash and all the supports we’ve selected are very live-focused, energetic bands. Every show is bound to be a party, it’s going to be a grand time.

Nic: To be blown away. Tonix has an electrifying sound, I think we are both bands that offer something unique for SA and worth checking out.

Tonix and Pash play Globe Hotel in Mount Gambier on January 24 with Sexy As Shit on support. Tickets on sale now via gaentertainment.com.au.
