ANDREW STRONG ANNOUNCES 2024 AUSTRALIAN TOUR PERFORMING ‘THE COMMITMENTS’ SOUNDTRACK IN FULL

Backed by a six-piece band, Andrew Strong will play all the hits from the 90s classic.

Irish singer Andrew Strong returns to Australia this September to perform The Commitments soundtrack in full.

One of the stars of the hit 1991 movie, Strong was just 18 years old when cast as singer Deco Cuffe. He earned a BAFTA Award nomination for his role in The Commitments and has gone on to forge a successful 30-plus-year career as a musician, releasing several albums and touring regularly across the globe.

Six years on from his last visit, Strong is accompanied by a six-piece band as he performs all the songs from The Commitments soundtrack across five Australian cities.

Kicking off in Adelaide at The Gov on Wednesday, September 4, Strong then plays Freo.Social in Perth on Saturday, September 7, The Tivoli in Brisbane on Wednesday, September 11 and Metro Theatre in Sydney on Friday, September 13, before the final show at Northcote Theatre in Melbourne on Saturday, September 14.

Released in 1991, The Commitments is a fly-on-the-wall look at the underground music scene of 1980s Dublin during a time of social unrest. Based on the book of the same name by Roddy Doyle and directed by Alan Parker, the film focuses on a rag-tag bunch of musos who form the soul-influenced band, The Commitments. The movie follows the ups and downs of the group as they struggle to ‘make it’ and was followed by two sequels, The Snapper in 1993 and The Van in 1996.

Critically acclaimed, The Commitments went on to win four BAFTA Awards and become an Irish cult classic. The movie also spawned a charting topping soundtrack that spent 51 weeks in the ARIA Chart, peaking at #1. It contains 14 tracks, most of which appear in the film, from artists including Al Green, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding and more.

Strong will be performing the soundtrack in its entirety when he touches down in Australia as part of the tour. Known for his powerful voice and charismatic stage presence, Strong will recreate the magic of The Commitments in a show that’s not to be missed.
