The psychedelic groovers will headline Monday night of the four day festival.
WOMADelaide might be seven months away but today the festival has shared the first headline act: psychedelic groovers Khruangbin.
The trio, consisting of Laura Lee Ochoa (bass guitar/vocals), Mark Speer (guitar/vocals) and DJ Johnson (drums/keyboards/vocals), will headline the final night of WOMAD on Monday, March 10 2025.
The news comes a month after Khruangbin announced an Australian tour that conspicuously missed Adelaide but hinted that the band would perform in the City of Churches in some capacity. Demand for tickets for their interstate shows resulted in Khruangbin adding extra dates, with the Texas act performing twice in Melbourne and Sydney along with a gig in Brisbane.
Forming in 2010, Khruangbin combine 60’s swagger with 70’s psychedelica and a solid dose of dub rock. They first came to the attention of the mainstream in 2020 with the release of their Leon Bridges featuring hit single, ‘Texas Sun’.
Known for their hypnotic live performances, they are a fantastic act to close out WOMAD and certainly fit the vibe of the festival.
Early bird 4-day and 3-day tickets for WOMAD are on sale now until 11:59pm on Thursday, September 12. You’ll save $50 on the final release 4-day ticket if you score an early bird ticket.
You can also opt to pay for your ticket in instalments, with a five month payment plan offered, which is awesome news considering the current cost of living crisis.
WOMADelaide is held on Kaurna Land at Botanic Park/Tainmuntilla from Friday, March 7 until Monday, March 10. Early bird tickets are on sale now via womadeliade.com.
