Monty Python co-founder Eric Idle is bringing his new comedy show ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’ Down Under this October and November.

The one man musical experience explores comedy, music and life and includes tributes to the Beatles George Harrison and funnyman Robin Williams, as well as a special deep dive into the Rutles, the hilarious Beatles parody movie Idle made in 1975.

Before arriving in Australia, Idle will play three shows in New Zealand, performing in Aukland, Wellington and Christchurch.

His first Australian date is Thursday, October 31 at Wrest Point Entertainment Centre in Hobart. He then plays Llewellyn Hall in Canberra on Saturday, November 2, Hammer Hall in Melbourne on Monday, November 4, QPAC Concert Hall in Brisbane on Wednesday, November 6, Star Theatre on the Gold Coast on Saturday, November 9, Civic Theatre in Newcastle on Monday, November 11, the State Theatre in Sydney on Wednesday, November 13 and Perth Concert Hall in Perth on Monday, November 18, before his final show at Festival Theatre in Adelaide on Wednesday, November 20.

Taking to X to share the news of his upcoming tour, Idle commented: “Some good news today from downunda. I’ll be touring New Zealand and Australia in October and November. Plenty of dates. On sale begins in the next couple of days. I’ll try and get you proper links. A little more good news soon.”

Idle has been a mainstay in the world of comedy for decades, getting his start on the UK comedy series Do Not Adjust Your Set. It’s here he met fellow performers Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam. The four, along with Graham Chapman and John Cleese, formed the comedy troupe Monty Python, producing the hit comedy sketch series Monty Python's Flying Circus.

After the show ended in 1975 the group moved into the world of film, releasing three hilarious comedies – Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), Life of Brian (1979) and The Meaning of Life (1983). All three were massive hits for Idle and co and influenced British comedy for years to come.

Although they went their separate ways in 1983, the Pythons have reformed several times over the years. Idle has gone on to have great success as a solo performer in both movies and television, along with having a long stint on radio and a successful theatre production with the Tony Award-winning stage musical Spamalot.

Tickets for Eric Idle’s ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’ go on sale Monday, May 13 at 8:30am local time via BOHM Presents.
