EXCLUSIVE: THE SUNDIALS – ‘I’M DOWN’
The Note caught up with flare pant party rockers The Sundials to get the low-down on their debut video, ‘I’m Down’, how they worked with filmmaker Harry Kellaway and their new music. You also get a lucky first look at the groovy video below!
Congratulations on a cracking video for "I'm Down". Could you describe the video to us in 5 words?
Flare. Pant. Party, Rock, Baby.
You've worked with local filmmaker Harry Kellaway to create this clip. How did this relationship come about?
Our bassist, Paddy, met him through uni and the two of them worked on multiple film projects together - various other Sundials actually acted in them. So, knowing his abilities, when we started thinking about a video, he was the natural choice.
Both tune and video alike are heavily inspired from the late '60s and early '70s. What was the creative process in creating the clip?
With this one, we just let Harry have a field day with it. He came to us with multiple ideas for a few of our song, but this ‘countdown live’ style clip just worked perfectly for our video debut. We're happy with how it turned out, and we're happy we got to shoot it in Arthur ArtBar -- the venue that inadvertently created us!
‘I’m Down’ has been out since March. What made you come back to this track for your first official video?
Originally it wasn't supposed to take this long. Mostly it was fumbling on EP recordings -- the mixing and mastering step really slowed us down, but once we had our next step sorted, we thought a belated video launch could serve as publicity for the next single release....
What's next for The Sundials?
Well, we are happy to announce the launch for our next single ‘BABY’ will be held at UniBar next month, alongside the Dandy Buzzkills, the Genevieves, and Oliver Carr' Carr Accident! It's going to be huge! Tickets on sale from later today!
