G’day Sexy as Shit! Would you like to introduce yourselves?
Sexy as Shit are a bombastic synth-pop duo from Berrin/Mount Gambier, featuring band members Michael ‘Cowboy’ Collins and Josh ‘JJ’ King. One day, Josh convinced me to go halves on a drum machine, then came the synthesizers and lastly the dance moves. SAS was initially just a little joke project that would play at friends house parties, but the more we did it, the more we realised the rest of the world needs to experience Sexy as Shit.
Which song of yours best represents Sexy as Shit?
‘White Rabbit’ – it’s like organised chaos. There’s so much going on, some things are part of Music 101 and others have no right being in the song, but we made it work… somehow.
You’re playing the Coast to Coast tour, alongside Molly Rocket and Dole Manchild. What are you looking forward to?
All three bands are jumping in a minivan and bouncing from city to city. We can’t wait to meet the folk from Molly Rocket and Dole Manchild and see what mischief the three bands can conjure up on the road (or on stage). It’s the first time [we’ve] been on tour, so I’m sure we’ll learn all of the highs and lows that come attached to that.
Coast to Coast stops off at The Globe in Mount Gambier. What does this show provide the local community?
From Mount Gambier’s perspective, we get two of Australia’s best up and coming bands playing in our own city for free! As a community, we then get to show these bands why Mount Gambier should be a staple destination for any act touring between Adelaide and Melbourne.
What should we expect from your live show?
So much dancing, ludicrous outfits and plenty of on-stage antics!
How do you hope this tour helps Mount Gambier’s music scene?
Everybody in the music scene here is so supportive and loving of each other, we’re all here for the same reason and that’s our love of live music. We hope having more opportunities like this encourages more people in the local community to start a band or get involved in the scene one way or another.
See Sexy as Shit play alongside Molly Rocket and Dole Manchild at the Crown & Anchor (ADL, May 8), The Globe (Mt Gambier, May 9) and The Penny Black (MELB, May 10). All shows are FREE to attend.
