ELECTRIC FIELDS – ‘ONE MILKALI (ONE BLOOD)’

When Electric Fields played at WOMADelaide in 2022, the audience were receptive. There was a sea of hands raised to the sky and many big, beautiful smiles. Two years later, Electric Fields have blasted through to the next stage… Eurovision! The Aboriginal electronic music duo is representing Australia with their infectious track ‘One Milkali (One Blood)’. They are storytellers and taking us on the ride, too. It’s upbeat, vibrant, soulful – and a seriously good pick for the world’s biggest music competition. If you’re watching the show in May, cheer for them! This track is about ‘all of us being together as one’.

ENERGY ANGEL – ‘DISAPPEAR HERE’

Single by single, Energy Angel keep us wanting more. Grungy, screamy vocals are overlayed with surf-indie production in their energetic track ‘Disappear Here’. It’s a must-listen for those who miss Violent Soho, but here’s the good news: Energy Angel are only just getting started. Not that these boys are not new to this music thing -- they share members with West Thebarton! The 5-piece have released three tracks so far, which all possess an analogue, gritty, nostalgic feel. The latest track was recorded with Lachy Pitcher at Depict Studios so they’re keeping it local! If you’re after something to scream, mosh and party with, then Energy Angel have got what you need.

CHERRY DAISIES – ‘AUTUMN’

Cherry Daisies are a piano-driven indie pop 5-piece. They’ve gifted us their debut track ‘Autumn’, which is indeed a fresh breath of Autumn air. It was written during a confusing time in a marriage, and we’re drawn into this world. Chelsea Turner’s voice harnesses power, somehow managing to breathe while belting out ‘the world can wait’. New instruments join in throughout the track in this simple and ever-changing track. But the piano is the hero and Cherry Daisies are bringing something new to the game – pop and piano are here to stay. Welcome to Adelaide’s music scene.

RIPCORD – ‘NOW YOU’RE GONE’

Head-thrashing since 2017, Ripcord have released a whole new EP. The track ‘Now You’re Grown’ is classic Aussie Rock and will probably get you thinking about Queens of the Stone Age. You might want to get Dad out of the 90s and down to The Lab this Friday, because Ripcord will put on a show for those who love to rock. Start placing bets that these guys will be at the Adelaide 500, because that’s the vibe – beards and all.

TEDDY MARS – ‘RAD HEART’

Teddy Mars is a name as fun-loving as their music! The local 5-piece are self-described guitar obsessives, and gee, they play so well. ‘Rad Heart’ is jangly, indie, swingy and totally energetic! It’s like a big hug which warms your heart with harmonies, ‘whoos’ and the use of a well-placed swear word. It’s a track for dancing, that’s for sure, and it seems that the five-piece have a lot of fun making music. Let’s hope Teddy Mars have more in store for 2024.
