Rising Melbourne-based artist Jess Locke has surprised fans by announcing a run of in-store performances at record stores across the country. Known for her honest and introspective lyrics, Locke is playing Adelaide’s favourite recorded store, Clarity Records, on Sunday, April 7.
The shows will take place throughout March, April and May, with Locke also playing Beatdisc Records in Sydney, Sonic Sherpa in Brisbane, Buffalo Club in Fremantle and Rocksteady Records in Melbourne. All shows are solo bar Locke’s hometown performance that will feature her band, while her trip to Western Australia is Locke’s first in several years.
Locke is currently riding high after the release of her latest tune ‘The Place’. The second single taken from her forthcoming album Real Life is a folky guitar gem with themes surrounding adulthood and nostalgia. It’s another cracking song that follows on from the indie rock vibe of previous single ‘Uncomfortably Happy’.
Jess Locke first got noticed with the release of her 2016 debut LP Words That Seem To Slip Away. The album saw Locke highlighted as a triple j Unearthed Feature Artist and named FBi Radio's Indie Artist of the Week. Just a year later her acclaimed sophomore album Universe debuted at #18 on the AIR Independent Label Album Chart, was nominated for the Australian Music Prize and was ranked #20 in Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Albums of 2017.
Her most recent record, 2021’s Don’t Ask Yourself Why, debuted at #7 on the Australian Independent Record Albums Chart. Described as “12 tracks steeped in themes of human behaviour, ego and self-reflection,” the album was recorded by Locke’s friend and producer Rob Muinos (Julia Jacklin, Saskwatch) and mastered by John Davis (Lana Del Ray, The Killers, Gorillaz).
Locke’s much anticipated fourth album Real Life is set for release May 3. You can pre-order/pre-save the album here. For more information regarding Locke's in-store appearance at Clarity Records, follow their social accounts here.
