This is the first taste of the band’s forthcoming sophomore album.
King Stingray is back with their first taste of new music in 2024 courtesy of the awesome single ‘Through the Trees’. A rollicking surf rock tune inspired by the band’s travels around Australia, ‘Through the Trees’ also examines our time on this Earth and getting through the hard times.
“On the surface it’s a fun traveling song representing adventure,” the Yolŋu surf-rockers said in a press release. “But beneath the surface it talks more deeply on the concept of time and how precious it is. It’s about overcoming adversity, coming out the other side, and reaching that breath of fresh air.”
The single is accompanied by a video directed by Sam Brumby and the band that was shot around the Arnhem Land region of the Northern Territory where the lads hail from. It features King Stingray performing on a pristine beach along with images of the band on tour. You can check it out below.
King Stingray has had a meteoric rise since forming in 2020. Their self-titled debut arrived in 2022 and became a huge hit, peaking at #6 on the ARIA Charts, winning two AIR Awards for Independent Album of the Year and Best Independent Rock Album or EP and also taking out the 2022 Australian Music Prize, which netted the band $30,000 in recognition of their achievements.
They also picked up the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist Award at the 2022 ARIA Awards and claimed three National Indigenous Music Awards.
Not only are they winning awards left, right and centre, but the band is set to embark on a tour of America with King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard in November.
