Municipal Waste makes a triumphant return to Australia this July in what’s shaping up as one hell of a party. The Richmond, Virginia crossover thrash metal act, returning to Australian shores for the first time in over a decade, is playing six dates in intimate venues across the country.

Comprising vocalist Tony Foresta, guitarist Ryan Waste, bassist Philip ‘Landphil’ Hall, drummer Dave Witte and second guitarist Nick Poulos, the band promises to deliver “an uncompromising, beer drenched, sweat inducing, high-octane audio-visual extravaganza” heavy on wild guitar riffs, pumelling percussion and Foresta’s talk-sing punk vocals.

The tour kicks off in Melbourne at Northcote Theatre on Friday July 5 before the band takes their inebriated show on the road, hitting Liberty Hall in Sydney on Saturday July 6, The Baso in Canberra on Sunday July 7, The Triffid in Brisbane on Wednesday July 10, Lions Art Factory in Adelaide on Friday July 12, and finally the Rosemount Hotel in Perth on Saturday June 13.

Municipal Waste has been giving parents nightmares since they rose from the dregs of a New Year’s Eve keg party at the end of the year 2000. For almost 25 years the band has been partying their way across the world as pioneers of the crossover thrash metal genre.

Now eight albums deep – their most recent long player is this year’s comically named Tango & Thrash – Municipal Waste has embedded themselves in the fabric of metal music. Whether it’s singing about mutants and boozing, playing sold-out shows across multiple continents or racking up over 760,000 streams per month on Spotify, Municipal Waste has achieved more than many thought possible, including the band themselves.

As for what fans can expect on their trip Down Under, frontman Foresta has this to say: “We hope you walk away with some bloody ears, blown speakers, pissed off parents, black eyes, and a healthy distrust of authority.” Good times all around.

Tickets for Municipal Waste’s 2024 Australian tour go on sale Friday April 5 at 9:30 am. For all the details head to Troubadour Presents.
