Polish Club Share New Single ‘Heavyweight’
Polish Club have slowed down the temp with latest release ‘Heavyweight’. Taken from the duo’s forthcoming as-yet-untitled fourth studio album, the guitar balled follows the sparkling indie pop of last month's ‘Manila’.
In the press release accompanying the single, drummer and backing vocalist John-Henry Pajak described how he and guitarist and lead vocalist David Novak came up with the song alongside collaborator Robby De Sá.
“I think the way the song came about is pretty interesting. It changed from a groovy, kind of rnb song to [kind of] a Britpop anthem. Both ‘Heavyweight’ and ‘Manila’ were me suggesting titles and [lead vocalist and guitarist, David] Novak writing lyrics around them. I feel like we are embracing the slow jams more as we get older.”
The black and white film clip (which you can view above) for the song was directed by Polish Club with help from Sydney collective Downgrade.
Although a release date for their new album has yet to be revealed, Polish Club is keeping busy, supporting Spiderbait on their upcoming 20th anniversary ‘Black Betty’ Australian album tour.

Sex Pistols Reunite Without Johnny Rotten
The Sex Pistols are getting the band back together for two special charity shows later this year, but Johnny Rotten hasn’t been invited.
Instead, English rocker Frank Carter will join guitarist Steve Jones, bassist Glen Matlock and drummer Paul Cook when the band takes the stage at Bush Hall in West London. Funds raised by the two shows on Tuesday, 13 and Wednesday, 14 August will go towards saving the iconic concert venue.
“This has been a joy from start to finish,” Carter revealed in a statement according to Consequence. “When The Sex Pistols call, you answer. I’m very excited to be a part of it.”
Cook added, “We’re doing a benefit for Bush Hall with the famous Frank Carter. We’re going to be playing Pistols numbers ’cause they need support and they need the money. We thought it would be a great way to stop it going under. This is my local venue. I grew up in Shepherd’s Bush and I still live round here. It would be a real shame to see it disappear and we want to keep it going. So everyone get down to the gig!”
And Jones joked, “If it all goes wrong, it’s Paul’s fucking fault.”
Rotten is yet to speak on being excluded from the shows.
