It’s a tough time out there for live music venues and the hospitality industry in general, so UniBar ADL wants to bring a little joy to Adelaide punters.

The current custodians of the recently inducted South Australian Music Hall of Fame venue, Gareth, Aaron and Kim, are celebrating their five-year tenure with a huge party on Friday April 19.

The free all-ages event from 5pm to midnight is a reminder of the power of live music and how much fun it is to knock back a few froths with your mates while catching amazing local bands in a live setting. The lineup is chock full of incredible Adelaide talent that will have you shaking your thing.

Headlining this mini-festival is multi-SA Music Award-winning, indie-pop-punk duo TOWNS. Riding high from the success of their most recent single, ‘Birthdays’, the Adelaide ratbags will get everyone on the dance floor with their indie tunes.

Also taking the stage during the night is up-and-coming electro-punk band Tonix, UniBar regulars Mums Favourite, punk rockers Lola and surf rock-influenced rising stars Sticky Beak.

If that’s not enough to get you involved, how about $5 drink specials all night?

Current owner and booker Gareth has seen a lot since taking over UniBar five years ago.

“Since we took over the sacred space which is UniBar in 2019 we’ve been through a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic, a generational change in the way people consume music, seen the floor drop out of the touring industry, festivals and brewers go broke weekly and, as a result of the continued barrage of interest rate rises, watch our punters decide between dinner for their family or seeing a gig.

Ticket buying patterns are the worst I have ever seen and there is no real light at the end of the tunnel! But we love what we do, and we are so proud as an independent business, to have put hundreds of bands on stage to thousands of punters in front of them, week in, week out. We’d love anyone who has been to a gig at UniBar in the past 5 years to come have a beer with us to cheers the least lucrative industry in the world right now!”

UniBar Adl’s ‘Turning Five’ party takes place on Friday April 19.
