Comedian Anh Do Is Bringing ‘The Happiest Refugee Live!’ To OzAsia Festival 2024
The announcement comes just over a month out from the official OzAsia Festival program being released.
Ahead of the release of the full OzAsia Festival program in August, organisers have announced comedian Anh Do is bringing his hugely successful stand-up show The Happiest Refugee – based on his best-selling and award-winning memoir of the same name – back by popular demand.
The Happiest Refugee Live! features the hilarious Do sharing his inspiring life story through funny anecdotes, photographs and filmed pieces. The performance has received rave reviews from critics, with ArtsHub’s Eugenia Twomey calling it “The happiest audience experience I have ever had.”
Speaking about bringing the show to OzAsia Festival, Anh Do says: “I’m so excited to be bringing my show The Happiest Refugee Live! back to Adelaide. I love performing at Festival Theatre and can’t wait to share my story at OzAsia Festival.”
The funnyman, who made his way to Australia on an eight-metre fishing boat alongside 47 other Vietnamese refugees in 1980, has become one of our country’s biggest stars. Not only has he taken the comedy world by storm, but Do has become a highly sought-after writer, actor and producer, starring in the interview series Anh’s Brush with Fame and the underrated rugby flick Footy Legends.

OzAsia Festival Artistic and Executive Producer Joon-Yee Kwok is excited for audiences to see Do’s show: “Growing up Asian in Australia, and experiencing the lack of Asian representation on our stages and screens, Anh Do became a personal hero when his memoir, The Happiest Refugee, became a mainstream hit.
“I am beside myself with excitement that Anh Do will be part of my first OzAsia Festival program. The 2024 OzAsia Festival program promises to be full of powerhouse artists, storytellers and entertainers, like Anh Do, amazing stories, and cultural connections.”
The Happiest Refugee Live! is the first of many awesome events set to be announced when OzAsia Festival releases its full program in August.
