Congrats on landing Beer & BBQ Fest! What should we expect from your set?

Thank you! We don’t take our sets too seriously and like to have a bit of fun with it. We always try to keep the energy high and try to get the crowd involved, whether it’s singing or moshing.

Who else are you keen to catch on the lineup?

Wolfmother are obviously Aussie legends, so it’ll be sick to see them play. There’s a band called Batpiss playing the night after us and we’re interested from the name alone, so hopefully we can go see them, too!

Tell us the FREEGOLF backstory.

We all played in different bands, but were friends. We were on the same lineup for a show in Port Pirie and when we were just killing time, we talked about starting a hardcore outfit. There was a sign advertising a free golf course, so we just took the inspo from that and called the band FREEGOLF. Our biggest inspirations are Fiddlehead and Have Heart – those sorta bands.

How has the mid-coast scene informed what you want the band to be?

We’re big fans of what’s going on in the mid-coast! There’s a huge focus on community here with Nice Day To Go To The Club, which is basically the epitome of everything good that happens on the mid-coast. We take lots of inspiration for how we want to be from the hardcore scene and hope to combine that with the community in the mid-coast.

What’s next for you musically?

We’ve got new music written! There’s still going to be some contrasts between each song, but we feel [like] we’re really honing in on the sound we want. You can expect to hear songs that lean a lot more into hardcore. As for seeing us, we’ve already got a fair few shows lined up for the next couple months, opening for Guitar Wolf, Pest Control and Street Legal.

See FREEGOLF on Friday night of Adelaide Beer & BBQ Fest this June 6. Tickets on sale now via Moshtix.
