HEAVY: DECEMBER

Will Oakeshott goes to the dark side to gather up all things metal in South Australia

YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO

CONNECTIONS – ‘COUNT MY SINS’

“Pull me in from the fire of your heartache and my sins.” Frontwoman Felicia Tassone belts out a mix of mesmerising melody and spirited screaming during the chorus of Connections’ single, ‘Count My Sins’. Although the Adelaide progressive metalcore band are perceived as relatively new, the (now) quartet have been collaborating since 2020. The track showcases a mature coalescence of alt metal greats Lacuna Coil blended with the djentcore adventures of Jinjer, with a dash of Karnivool added for extra potency. Connections’ EP Eclipse is out now, and this heavy metal shadow is one to become lost in.

YOU SHOULD SEE: METAL CHURCH

Arguably San Francisco’s most resilient metal outfit, Metal Church are returning to Australia with their 13th studio album, Congregation of Annihilation. This is the first LP release since the tragic loss of legendary frontman Mike Howe, and the first record with new vocalist Marc Lopes. Experience metal history live, again.
