Nominations are now open for the sixth Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA).
This is your chance to celebrate the movers and shakers in the Australian music industry, with nominations open to inspiring female or gender-diverse artists, along with those involved in behind-the-scenes roles vital to the success of the local scene.
Since the first AWMA awards in 2018, close to 2,000 individuals have been recognised for their talent, with a massive 1,946 nominations from 2018-2024.
There are 19 award categories, with nominations open from now until May 30, with the winner being announced at the AWMA Award Ceremony on Thursday, October 9, at the Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane.
This year also sees the launch of #NominateThem – a new initiative aimed at encouraging fans, peers and industry names to nominate those who may not put themselves forward. The AWMA has found many worthy recipients haven’t felt deserving enough to throw their name in the hat, so it’s hoped that the #NominateThem campaign will see more female, gender-diverse, First Nations and Multicultural artists, musicians, and music practitioners nominated, helping foster a more supportive music industry.

Founding Executive Producer and Program Director Vicki Gordon said, "Our inaugural AWMA in 2018 paved the way for some of the most important change the industry has ever seen, igniting collaboration and support nationally for female and gender-diverse artists and music practitioners, First Nations and Multicultural artists and artists living in remote and regional areas. As we head into our sixth year, we are proud of the change and the shift AWMA has enabled - but there is so much more work to be done.
"Alongside our Awards Ceremony and Concert, our annual Conference and First Nations Women's Music Showcase will continue to amplify positive role models, helping to break down cultural barriers and negative stereotypes", Gordon added.
Recently appointed AWM Chair Sarah McLeod added, “It’s an exhilarating moment to launch the opening of the 2025 AWMA nominations, and we are excited to discover and celebrate the extraordinary Australian talent we have across the sector. I feel so honoured to be a part of such an important event in our vibrant industry.”
