MAMMAL ANNOUNCE ‘THE PENNY DROP’ ALBUM LAUNCH TOUR
Expect to hear cuts from the new album alongside fan favourites.
Australian alternative rock stalwarts Mammal are back with their highly anticipated sophomore record, The Penny Drop. Released in March, the album is straight-up rock and roll and everything you could want from a Mammal album. Wall of Sound described The Penny Drop as “a potent, heady mix of blistering rock, funk, punk, hip-hop and atmospheric moodiness.” Tasty.
To celebrate the album’s release, original members Ezekiel Ox. (vocals), Pete Williamson (guitars), Zane Rosanoski (drums) and newbie Kade Turner (bass) – replacing Nick Adams – are hitting the road this July and August. The band will play four shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane, performing songs from their new album alongside classic cuts and fan favourites.
Kicking off in their hometown of Melbourne at Max Watts on Friday, July 19, the quartet then hits Sydney’s Metro Social on Saturday, July 20, and Adelaide’s UniBar on Friday, August 2 before finishing up the tour in Brisbane at The Brightside on Saturday, August 3.
Each leg of the tour features different support from some of Australia’s best local talent. Shotgun Mistress, Fresh Violet and Terrestrials will support Mammal in Melbourne, Shotgun Mistress and The Black Cardinals in Sydney, Kitchen Witch and Bloomy Meadows in Adelaide and the Hammers and The Lonesomes will play the final show in Brisbane.
First forming in 2006, Mammal quickly rose to prominence thanks to their unique rock sound and legendary live performances. They established themselves as one of Melbourne’s great rock acts, releasing their cracking debut album The Majority in 2008.
Mammal soon found themselves supporting the likes of Kiss, Avenge Sevenfold, Sebastian Bach, Cog, Grinspoon and Spiderbait while also playing some of Australia’s biggest festivals, such as Big Day Out, Pyramid Rock Festival, Groovin’ The Moo. They also found support from triple j, who spun their singles ‘Smash The Piñata’, ‘The Majority’, ‘Hell Yeah’ and ‘Think’, helping grow Mammal’s fanbase.
Sadly it all came to an end in 2009, with Mammal calling it quits at the height of their success. Nearly a decade later the band reunited for several live shows in 2017 and began planting the seeds for a new album. Mammal’s long-awaited album, The Penny Drop, finally arrived this year, spawning the singles ‘Keanu Reeves’, ‘The Penny Drop’ and latest single ‘Doubt’.
The shows are expected to be epic, with Ox having this to say about the upcoming tour: “Beg borrow or steal to get to these shows if you like it live and rowdy. This new album was built for the live stage and we can’t wait to give it that extra Mammal edge when we jam it out for you all. Bring your dancing pants!”
