Acclaimed jazz guitarist Mike Stern is heading our way in 2025 in support of his recently released album, Echoes And Other Songs.

The six-time Grammy nominated muso is bringing a live band with him, consisting of influential funk drummer Dennis Chambers, German finger picker and singer Leni Stern (who also happens to be Mike’s wife), Brooklyn-based bassist Noam Tanzer and Australia’s own Blaine Whittaker on saxophone.

Stern’s Australian tour begins in Chatswood with an intimate performance at The Lounge on Friday, February 14. The talented guitarist and his band then play at Marrickville’s Factory Theatre on Saturday, February 15, Adelaide’s The Gov on Sunday, February 16 and Brisbane’s Princess Theatre on Tuesday, February 18.

The final dates of the tour take place at Melbourne’s Bird’s Basement, with Stern and co performing three headline shows from Thursday, February 20 to Saturday, February 22.

Tickets for all shows are on sale now via Gerrard Allman Events and Bird’s Basement.

For close to six decades Stern has been wowing audiences with his incredible guitar skills. Getting his start with Blood, Sweet & Tears in the 70s, Stern went on to work with drummer Billy Cobham and trumpeter Miles Davis before going solo in the mid-80s.

Throughout his career Stern has collaborated with countless high profile musicians and released over 20 albums, with his most recent record being this year’s Echoes And Other Things.

The LP features a tasty lineup of special guests, including Christian McBride, Chris Potter, Antonio Sanchez and Richard Bona, and arrives after a tough period for Stern. The last couple of years have seen Stern mourn the death of his long time producer and keyboardist Jim Beard while also recovering form a near career-ending injury that occurred when Stern took a fall in New York, breaking both of his humerus bones.

“I’m gonna keep trying with whatever I got. You know I got to,” Stern says about his current outlook on life. “Because I love it and love means that some days you hate it; those two sides are on the same coin. But the love is definitely winning out.”

Catch Mike Stern at The Gov on Sunday, February 16. Tickets on sale now via Gerrard Allman Events.
