UK act The Primitives’ debut Australian tour is finally happening. After their initial attempt to head Down Under earlier this year ran afoul, the legendary indie pop band have locked in dates for February 2025.

Best known for their 1988 smash hit ‘Crash’, The Primitives have spent this year celebrating the 35th anniversary of their debut album, Lovely, including performing for a packed crowd at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Arriving in Australia next February, The Primitives’ first show takes place in Brisbane at Lefty’s Music Hall on Wednesday, February 19. The group then journeys to Melbourne for a gig at The Corner Hotel on Thursday, February 20 before hitting Sydney’s Crowbar on Friday, February 21 and Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory on Sunday, February 23. The final date of the tour occurs in Perth at The Rosemount on Tuesday, February 25.

Tickets for all five shows go on sale Thursday, September 5 via Troubadour Presents.

Originally formed by PJ Court (vocals/guitar), Steve Dullaghan (bass), Peter Tweedie (drums) and Keiron McDermott (vocals) in 1984, it wasn’t until McDermott was replaced by singer Tracy Tracy in 1986 and Tig Williams took over behind the drum kit in 1987 that The Primitives found a settled lineup and entered the studio to record their first album.

The end product was Lovely, the group’s defining album that spawned the UK Singles Chart #5 hit ‘Crash’ and UK Top 100 singles ‘Stop Killing Me’, ‘Thru the Flowers’ and ‘Out of Reach’.

The Primitives went on to release two more albums, Pure (1989) and Galore (1991), before calling it quits in 1992.

After the passing of original bass player Steve Dullaghan in 2009, the remaining members reunited for what was meant to be a one-off concert to celebrate Dullaghan’s life in his hometown of Coventry. But a secret show in London followed before the band announced a fully-fledged 2010 UK tour that evolved to include shows across Europe and the US.

New albums followed with Echoes and Rhymes (2012) and Spin-O-Rama (2014) along with more tours across the UK, Europe, North America and Japan.

The current lineup of original members Tracy, Court, and Williams are looking forward to performing for Australian audiences next year, with tickets for The Primitives’s debut Aussie tour sure to sell fast.

Catch The Primitives at Lion Arts Factory on Sunday, February 25. Tickets on sale via Troubadour Presents.
