YOUR GUIDE TO WHAT’S ON AT HINDLEY ST MUSIC HALL IN MAY 2024
Check out our favourite gigs happening at the Hindley Street venue this month.
Hindley St Music Hall has fast become one of Adelaide’s most popular live music venues. The previous site of HQ Nightclub, the impressive 1,800-capacity venue is a joint venture between local promoters Five Four Entertainment, artist management company and booking agency Secret Sounds and ticketing behemoth Live Nation.
Showcasing everything from live music and comedy shows to theatre performances and private functions, Hindley St Music Hall has hosted some of the biggest local and international acts and events since opening its doors in 2022.
With so many fantastic events and artists playing weekly, it can be hard to keep up with what’s happening at Hindley St Music Hall, so we’ve collected our top picks for May below.
STÜM supported by 6Sense
Naarm-based DJ and producer STÜM returns to Adelaide with a visual and audio experience like no other. His upcoming performance will feature a 360-degree viewing stage for patrons to immerse themselves in his trance-inspired set of heavy basslines and melodic anthems.
Support comes from fellow Naarm-based duo 6Sense, whose high-energy electronic bangers have seen them crowned kings of the underground dance music scene.
STÜM and 6Sense play this Saturday, May 11. Tickets via Moshtix.
KAITI GARBI & DIMITRI SCHOINAS
Prepare yourself for a night of Greek music when acclaimed singers Kaiti Garbi and Dimitri Schoinas hit Hindley Street Music Hall next week.
Garbi’s career spans over 35 years, with the talented vocalist having sold over 2 million records, participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 and won an astonishing 12 Greek Pop Corn Music Awards, Greece’s equivalent to the Grammy Awards.
Performing songs from her extensive back catalogue, Garbi will be supported by her son, Dimitri Schoinas, who is forging his own successful music career.
Kaiti Garbi and Dimitri Schoinas play on Saturday, May 18. Tickers via Moshtix.
Peter Hook & the Light
Legendary Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook and his band The Light make their triumphant return to Australia this month, performing both the New Order and Joy Division compilation album, Substance.
Hook and co will play both albums in sequential order, playing both group’s biggest hits, including New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’, ‘Temptation’ and ‘Bizzare Love Triangle’ and Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’, ‘Transmission’ and ‘Atmosphere’.
This is one for the post-punk crowd, with Hook and his band – which includes Hook’s son Jack Bates on bass – paying tribute to two of the greatest bands to come out of the UK in the 80s.
Peter Hook & The Light play on Tuesday, May 21. Tickets via Moshtix.
Ben Howard
British singer-songwriter Ben Howard became a global star in 2011 with the release of his triple-platinum debut album, Every Kingdom. Now five albums deep, the two-time BRIT Award winner is back in Australia supporting his 2023 album, Is It?
Recorded in England and France, the album marks another change in Howard’s musical direction. Inspired by two mini-strokes he suffered before entering the studio, the album has an electronic lean with experimental vocals.
Howard’s Adelaide gig will see him playing songs from his new album, along with fan favourites including ‘Only Love’, ‘Keep Your Head Up’ and ‘Old Pine’.
Ben Howard plays on Friday, May 24. Tickets via Moshtix.
