NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2024 AUSTRALIAN WOMEN IN MUSIC AWARDS ARE NOW OPEN
This is your chance to celebrate the great women in the Australian music industry.
It’s time to celebrate the incredible women in the Australian music industry by nominating your favourite movers and shakers for the 2024 Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA).
Nominations are now open, with the names of artists, producers, journalists, photographers, industry leaders and more able to be put forward to win an award in 19 available categories.
These categories include ARIA Executive Leader Game Changer, Lifetime Achievement, Women in Heavy Music, Songwriter, Filmmaker and many more. You can check out the full list here.
Established in 2018 by founding Executive Producer Vicki Gordon, the awards aim to address gender inequality in the Australian music industry, giving flowers to those who deserve recognition for their achievements.
Any woman involved in the Aussie music biz can be nominated, with the AWMA encouraging nominations from those who identify as non-binary, LGBTQI+ and GNC.
Since the inception of the awards, the AWMA has received a massive 1,544 nominations, named 190 finalists and celebrated 73 award recipients.
“The inaugural AWMA in 2018 was a watershed moment for the Australian music industry,” Gordon said in a press release.
“In a long overdue and much-needed expression of solidarity and leadership, AWMA set the foundation for change, igniting collaboration and support nationally for diverse female creatives, non-binary and LGBTQI+ and GNC artists, First Nations and Multicultural female artists, students, techs, female artists living in remote and regional areas, and music practitioners across all genres.
“In addition to the Awards Ceremony and Concert, our annual Conference and First Nations Women’s Music Showcase amplify positive role models, helping to break down cultural barriers and negative stereotypes which have prevented women from succeeding for decades.”
This year’s event has introduced a new category – Opera – which will highlight the incredible talent from this often-overlooked genre of music.
You can nominate yourself or someone you think deserves recognition here. The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, May 28. The ceremony and conference will be held from Tuesday, October 1 to Wednesday, October 2 in Meanjin/Brisbane.
