It’s shaping up as a massive summer for the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO). The organisation has revealed its mammoth 2025 Season program that’s packed to the brim with an incredible lineup of exciting events sure to thrill punters.

ASO Chief Executive Officer Colin Cornish is proud of what’s on offer this Season and believes there is something for everyone. “ASO enjoys the pride of its community and in 2025 we continue to create opportunities for all South Australians to experience their orchestra in many different venues and through a range of musical styles,” Cornish says. “Our 2025 season is filled with opportunities to bring families and friends together, whether seasoned or first-time audience members of the orchestra.”

Leading this Season’s program are several special events, including Born in Vienna at Elder Hall and Mozart’s Requiem at St Peter’s Cathedral, with both celebrating the history of classical music.

Legendary British pianist Sir Stephen Hough will be performing his own piano concerto co-commissioned by the ASO while composer Johannes Brahms will be headlining Brahms: the Symphonies, a popular immersive concert series.

The ASO is also spotlighting women composers, including Elena Kats-Chernin, Anna Clyne and Peggy Glanville-Hicks, for Light – Song at Elder Hall, while the ASO’s flagship Symphony Series returns to Adelaide Town Hall, with Sir Stephen Hough performing all five Beethoven Piano Concertos.

Billy Joel fans can celebrate the singer-songwriter’s career with the Australian premiere of Piano Man, a show featuring orchestral arrangements of Joel’s biggest hits, such as ‘Uptown Girl’, ‘She’s Always a Woman’, ‘Vienna’ and ‘Piano Man’.

There’s also something for Cinephiles, who can celebrate the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future or watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 on the big screen with the ASO performing the soundtrack live.

Mark Wigglesworth is in the hot seat for his first year as Chief Conductor and believes the power of music can connect South Aussies on a deeper level. “Music releases us to connect with very deep emotions within ourselves, and shows us how connected these emotions are with other people’s,” Wigglesworth says. “Music brings us together in an unshakeable way, generating extraordinary empathy towards each other.”

Aware of the current cost of living crisis, the ASO is doing their bit to keep prices as low as possible, offering special discounts like the 30 and under tickets.

Many of tickets for shows during the 2025 Season can be purchased for $30 if you’re 30 and under, while students can sign up for a Live Pass Membership ($50) that gives access to free shows and a host of discounts.

Tickets for Season 2025 are on sale now with single tickets available from November 12. Head to the ASO’s website and explore the full program of events.
