Indie folk purveyor Donovon Woods has announced his debut Australian tour, hitting the road this June. The tour comes ahead of the release of his eighth album, Things Were Never Good If They’re Not Good Now. The folk troubadour has become quite popular in his native Canada over the past few years. His brand of country folk with indie flourishes has resonated with listeners and critics, with Woods’ last album, Without People, nominated for the Alternative Country Album of the Year at the 2001 Canadian Country Music Awards.
Woods’ tour of Australia will take in seven cities across the country, with the first show in Perth at Milk Bar on Thursday 13 June. The tour will then head to Jive in Adelaide on Friday 14 June, Northcote Social Club in Melbourne on Saturday 15 June, Sooki Lounge in Belgrave on Sunday 16 June, Stag & Hunter Hotel in Newcastle on Thursday June 20 and The Great Club in Sydney on June 21, before finishing up at Black Bear Lodge in Brisbane on Saturday June 22.
These intimate shows will showcase the Juno Award-winning talent of Woods, who will be playing songs from across his nearly two-decade career, including tracks from his new album, Things Were Never Good If They’re Not Good Now. The singer-songwriter’s breakthrough came in 2020 with the release of his seventh album, Without People. The album saw Woods embark on his largest tour yet, along with scoring a coveted spot opening for Gaslight Anthem on their latest tour.
Woods’ tour is a partnership with Support Act, an Australian charity set up to provide crisis relief, mental health and wellbeing support to musicians, managers, crew, music workers and organisations across all genres of music. For every ticket sold, $1 will go straight to the charity, showing Woods’ commitment to the music industry.
With over 741,000 monthly streams on Spotify and an impressive 105 million and counting streams for his track ‘Portland, Maine’ (originally performed by country legend Tim McGraw), Woods is finally getting his dues, and his tour of Australia is sure to be a special event.
Tickets for Woods’ Adelaide show at Jive are on sale now via Moshtix. You can pre-save a copy of Things Were Never Good If They’re Not Good Now here, or pre-order a physical copy of the album here.
