Celebrate Adelaide’s vibrant live music scene later this month when the City of Adelaide’s Music in the Square returns to the heart of Adelaide. Held at the picturesque Hindmarsh Square on Friday, November 29, Music in the Square is a free, inclusive community event with a focus on live music.

Discover your new favourite band as an impressive lineup of emerging Adelaide artists perform while enjoying a tantalising range of curated food and drink options from local eateries.

Ella Ion, Swapmeet and Effie Isobel, three of Kaurna Land’s most promising acts, will take to the stage from 4:30-7:30pm as the sun sets over the city.

Singer-songwriter Ella Ion is an artist crafting honest and emotive music that fluctuates between soothing country folk compositions and gritty, post-punk tunes. Inspired by greats such as Jeff Buckley, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen, Ella is a maturing singer-songwriter who released her debut album Waiting to rave reviews in 2023.

To call Swapmeet an indie band is selling the quartet short. There’s an emotional depth to their experimental sound that sways from playful to tumultuous from song to song. Gaining a reputation for their fantastic live performances, Swapmeet shared their absorbing debut EP Oxalis earlier this year, with the quartet winning Best Release for the EP and Best Song for ‘Ceiling Fan’ at this year’s SA Music Awards.

Described as ‘bubble grunge’, effie isobel is a bewitching performer whose dream pop creations will have you transfixed. Following her triple j played debut single ‘Lip Balm’, effie’s latest release, ‘Peach Heart’, is a vibrant burst of shoegaze pop that likens a sugar high to having a crush.

All three acts showcase the diverse talent that makes up South Australia’s incredible music scene.

Fancy a snack while watching all this great live music? Pick from five local food and drink operators serving tasty treats and cold bevies for all appetites. Wine bar LOC, watering hole The Griffins Hotel, French bistro Le Pas Sage, European-inspired brasserie and bar PARC and Adelaide favourite Carlton Deli are there to satisfy your hunger.

Music in the Square is a City of Adelaide event that takes place at Hindmarsh Square on Friday, November 29 from 4:30-7:30pm. Entry is free and all are welcome.
