UK Shoegaze Act Ride Announce 2024 Australian Tour
The popular British quartet return to our shores in support of their new album, Interplay.
Australian fans finally get the chance to catch Ride in the flesh again this year when the UK shoegaze icons make their long-awaited return to our shores.
The quartet of Mark Gardener (vocals, rhythm guitar), Andy Bell (vocals, lead guitar, keyboards), Steve Queralt (bass) and Laurence "Loz" Colbert (drums) have announced an Australian tour in support of their 2024 album, Interplay.
The band are playing five shows across the country this August before a one-off performance in New Zealand. The tour starts in Adelaide at Hindley St Music Hall on Thursday, August 8 before hitting Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Friday, August 9, Melbourne’s The Forum on Saturday, August 10, Brisbane’s The Tivoli on Wednesday, August 14 and Fremantle’s Metropolis on Friday, August 16.
Ride will be supported by American rockers Mercury Rev, who have received a spike in popularity in recent years after their song ‘Holes’ was covered by The National's lead singer Matt Berninger and featured in the popular 2021 animated movie, Sing 2.
Early bird pre-sale commences this Wednesday, May 14 at 8:30am local time. Register for pre-sale tickets here. General sale kicks off on Friday, May 17 at 8:30am via Destroy All Lines.
Forming in 1988 in Oxford, England, Ride helped pioneer the British shoegaze movement with the release of their debut album, Nowhere. Acclaimed by critics and described by Pitchfork as one of shoegaze's "indisputable masterpieces,” the album features the band’s signature tune, ‘Vapour Trail’.
Ride followed Nowhere with 1992s Going Blank Again, 1994s Carnival of Light – both peaking at #5 on the UK Album Chart – and 1996s Tarantula, before calling it a day after internal conflicts.
The band surprisingly reunited in 2014, going on to release three more albums, 2017s Weather Diaries, 2019s This Is Not a Safe Place and this year’s Interplay. Written and recorded during the pandemic, Interplay has a synth-pop influence and showcases a new dimension to Ride.
Ride’s Australian tour is a fantastic opportunity for longtime fans to reconnect with the band and hear their impactful tunes live one more time.
Catch Ride and Mercury Rev at Hindley Street Music Hall on Thursday, August 8. Tickets on sale via Destroy All Lines.
