The Jesus & Mary Chain Share New Single ‘Pop Seeds’
The tune was recorded during sessions for the Scottish outfit’s most recent album, Glasgow Eyes.
Fresh from wowing crowds during their Australian tour last month, Scottish alt-rockers The Jesus & Mary Chain have shared new single, ‘Pop Seeds’.
The track was originally written during recording sessions for the band’s well-received eighth album, Glasgow Eyes, but didn’t quite fit with the darker tone of the record. ‘Pop Seeds’ is a rather joyous guitar-driven rocker with a feel-good vibe fans are sure to get a kick out of.
The title of the track is a reference to the first group brothers Jim and William Reid formed 40 years ago before evolving into The Jesus & Mary Chain. A statement about ‘Pop Seeds’ describes the song as a “nostalgic evocation of the shared psychic landscape which led to the formation of The Jesus and Mary Chain.”

The release of ‘Pop Seeds’ coincides with The Jesus & Mary Chain’s upcoming memoir, Never Understood.
The book will explore the history of The Jesus & Mary Chain; expanding on its creation in 1983 by the Reid siblings, the band’s split in 1999, eventual reconciliation and the current creative hot streak that gifted fans this year’s Glasgow Eyes.
Sadly for Australian fans, the wait to read what promises to be an engrossing book is longer than in most other countries. The paperback version of Never Understood isn’t releasing here until December, with the hardcover arriving in November.
That said, the wait is sure to be worth it, with the ups and downs faced by The Jesus & Mary Chain sure to make for a fascinating read.
