JON ANN – ‘F WITH ME’

JON ANN – ‘F WITH ME’

“Take your broken heart, make it into art” – Carrie Fisher.
The arts can encourage healing – they can act as a tool to express what may often seem as inexpressible. Or in the case of Christie Bond from pub punk rock quartet Jon Ann, it can give you the platform to sing “Look what you’ve done to me, you’ve really fucked with me.” If Ms. Fisher were alive today, she would acknowledge these lyrics unreservedly and probably admit ‘the force is strong in this one’.
The single begins with a blooming siren reverberation before the power-punk guitar chords vigorously strum in – the moment when the essence of the Melbourne maniac punks Amyl & The Sniffers is felt. The rolling drums build before the punk truly kicks in, forcing witnesses to swing their heads side-to-side. Christie narrates her tale of heartbreak with brazen brilliance until the near two-and- a-half-minute mark, when the punk discord becomes a duet with whispered additions. Then screams blast in and that unifying gang-vocal “Yeah, yeah, yeah!” instigates fist-pumping from the audience.
Princess Leia also said: “You can’t live for others.” Perhaps, this is the way.

Sounds like: The prequel to L7’s ‘Shitlist’ in the vein of Stand Atlantic’s ‘Lost My Cool’.
