Having utilised music as a way to contend with her cultural Afrikaans pressures and balance her Christian faith with her queer identity, My Cherie’s latest is nothing short of hand-on-the-shoulder encouragement to find one’s unique place in the world. 

The slow-burning cut takes influence from names like Grimes and Mallrat, blending electronic instrumentation with organic pop sensibilities to craft a cathartic, blissful creation that inspires as it delights. It might not have been the sage words we received, but ‘Don’t Compare Yourself’ is the advice we always needed.
