A shining star of the Adelaide music scene, Ricky Albeck is gearing up for a May release of his debut album, Nocturnal, with ‘Insignificant Favours’ arriving as the first taste of the long-awaited project.
Going it alone without his Belair Line Band since moving to Melbourne, Albeck’s reputation as one of the country’s most underrated songwriters is on full display as he ruminates on feelings of long-distance friends and small-town life. Working with Jess Johns, Tom Spall and Thea Martin, Albeck’s stacked lineup offers up almost paradoxical feelings of loneliness and wistfulness, while his comforting voice becomes that vital hand on the shoulder.
Any artist going solo might have high expectations put upon them, but Albeck has pedigree, musical history and a knack for cutting to the heart with a few lines and six strings. Both ‘Insignificant Favours’ and the upcoming Nocturnal need to be on high rotation this year.
Sounds like: The first of many lonely drinks at a country pub, far from home.
