Exclusive: King Jeff & The How Are Yous – ‘Preacher’
King Jeff & The How Are Yous have dropped barnstorming new single, ‘Preacher’. Listen to the track exclusively via The Note.
It’s been all quiet on the King Jeff & The How Are Yous front this year, but the lads have broken their silence today with the release of not one, but two brand spanking new tunes, ‘Preacher’ and ‘Bad Zelda’. The Note has been given exclusive access to ‘Preacher’, which you can check out below.
Produced by Lucinda Machin at Forest Range Studios, ‘Preacher’ is a riotous guitar rocker that packs a punch. The tune is accompanied by a black-and-white music video shot by Zac Steele featuring the lads busting out some inspiring dance moves.
‘Bad Zelda’ is another ball buster with a melodic groove that’s hard to shake. Bonus points for the wild guitar solo.
In short, both tunes kick ass and won’t disappoint King Jeff fans.
Along with sharing the music video to ‘Preacher’ with The Note, the band answered a few questions about the two singles, the recording process and what to expect from King Jeff & The How Are Yous in the future.
We absolutely love ‘Preacher’ and ‘Bad Zelda’. What's changed for King Jeff between these two songs and your debut LP, Moon Landing?
The recording process has probably changed the most. Not so much the writing process, [as] writing songs is still very hard and fast for King Jeff.
This time around we went up to the Hills to the beautiful Forest Range Studios with Lucinda (Machin) and tracked the two songs live, then got them mixed by Tarek Musa from the UK, who used to be in a band we love [called] Spring King. We just randomly hit him up and he was such a legend.
‘Preacher’ and ‘Bad Zelda’ are bigger sounding I guess, but still have that live feel. It feels as though we have honed in on our sound more.
What did you learn from recording the previous LP to releasing these songs?
We’ve tried our luck at getting the songs in front of a new audience and spent more time on getting the sound right - just for a change. For the Moon Landing LP, we recorded and mixed it all at Port Noarlunga and put it out there without any real thought behind it. It feels nice to mix it up. There is every chance when we record our next album we just fall back to putting it out in the abyss with no thought again. Haha.
Tell us what the songs are about.
They are both essentially about being in new and exciting situations. We also feel like we’re getting on a bit and the band is keeping life fun.
What's coming up for King Jeff? Any more releases on the horizon?
We want to go away for a weekend together and write a new album, hopefully before the years out. We all individually have material and ideas, it’s just about getting us together to spew the ideas out into the big King Jeff pot and see what we can cook up.
If you could describe the songs in three words each, what would they be?
‘Preacher’ – Packed, punchy and punk.
‘Bad Zelda’ – Energetic, exciting, and endearing.
