Celebrate Super Cycle Sunday this September

Swap four wheels for two this Super Cycle Sunday.

Endorphins, sunshine and a party with your pushbike, Super Cycle Sunday is fast approaching – the free community event hosted by the City of Adelaide celebrating World Car-Free Day.

On September 22, turn up for interactive bike riding activities, demonstrations and live music at the fun, family-friendly event hosted in Whitmore Square/Iparrityi. Super Cycle Day encourages you to be eco-conscious with your transportation methods, choose greener alternatives and get your blood pumping. And what better way to do that than being on your bike?

For those with little tackers, the day starts with the Kidical Mass ride – a global movement designed to increase on-road cycling safety for families. It’s a great opportunity to help your child (and you!) develop confidence in on and off-road settings while raising awareness. And let’s not forget, the collective event is lots of fun, too! The ride starts at 10am at Whitmore Square/Iparrityi and you can register here

From there, the Super Cycle Day hub is yours to explore. Check out the pop-up stalls, latest models and trial rides from local bike businesses like Hi5 E Bikes and Hey Reflect’o and become acquainted with Adelaide’s vibrant cycling community. There’s even an opportunity for you and your little ones to ‘bling your bike’ at a free,   and fun interactive workshop!

The Bike Shed at Blackwood – a collective of retired riders who provide bikes to refugees and people in need – will also be at the event to give away some refurbished bikes and will also have a drop-off point for anyone who would like to donate their old frame.

From 10am, DJ Evie Lucas will soundtrack the event with her feel-good tunes to get your blood pumping before foot-drumming, guitar-strumming music sensation Lucas Day takes over at midday for an afternoon of acoustic tracks. As the day continues, you can also catch live performances by jazz songstress Eliza Dickson (1pm-1:45pm) and a soulful collaboration between vocalist Leni and saxophonist Jack Degenhart (2pm-2:45pm).

What’s more, there is plenty of opportunity to refuel following your cycle to the city or efforts in the Kidical Mass ride. Food truck favourites Soza’s will roll up to Whitmore Square/Iparrityi, while local eatery Cafe Troppo will serve their famed coffee and sweet treats. There’ll also be stalls from Bubble Me Bubble Tea SA, Barossa Ice Cream and Mismatch Brewing Adelaide.

Get ready to cycle your way to a greener, healthier future!

Super Cycle Day is on September 22 and is a City of Adelaide initiative that forms part of their Spring into Wellbeing efforts. The free community event takes place from 10am-3pm at Whitmore Square/Iparrityi and you can stay up to date with all the fun activities on the event page here.
