Aussie hip hop gun Illy is making a comeback with his upcoming seventh album Good Life, arriving October 25 (pre-save/pre-order here).

Produced by Xavier Dunn and Kuren, the 14-track album finds Illy addressing the highs and lows of his life over the past couple of years, ultimately aiming to convey a message of positivity through his work.

“I’ll get to the point – Good Life is coming from the most fully formed Illy, the artist, to date,” Illy says. “Some of the most intense moments and emotions of my life, good and bad, happened while making this album. How can I not love every single song on it?! I fought for each of them, sometimes for years, sometimes when outvoted, and sometimes with myself, all over the world, with the help of a lot of great people. It’s so fitting that after all that time, heart and soul, I’m left with Good Life as a reminder of it.”

Not only is the two-time ARIA Award winner releasing a new album, but the ‘Papercuts’ artist has shared the album’s title track ‘Good Life’, along with revealing tour dates for this November.

‘Good Life’, which was co-written and produced by DMA’s Johnny Took, merges an acoustic guitar lick with vibrant hip hop beats and Illy’s reassuring croon. Speaking on the track, Illy says: “The saying ‘The good life’ paints a picture of easy streets, white picket fences and blue skies. Fuck that. The real ‘good life’ is in belief – knowing who you are, taking your lumps and hard times, pushing forward, proving people (sometimes yourself) wrong, and seeing it through.

“The last few years have battered me, I can’t lie. But Australia has given me a lot, and this is a love song to Australia, Australian hip-hop and rock and roll, and the deeply Australian ‘never say die’ spirit that got me through.”

When it comes to Illy’s Good Life tour, the triple j favourite is performing four East Coast shows, including a gig in little old Adelaide.

The four concerts come after the rapper’s massive 25-date regional tour at the backend of 2024 that saw Illy entertain crowds in towns such as Gladstone, Exmouth, Albury, Esperance and Broome.

Catch Illy at The Gov on Thursday, November 21. Tickets on sale now via illyal.com.
