After teasing fans with a potential tour announcement last week, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) have confirmed they are heading our way next year.

The British synth pioneers will touch down in Australia in February 2025 as part of their ‘Greatest Hits Tour’. This will be OMD’s first Aussie trip in almost four decades, with the band last performing here in 1987. The current lineup of founding members Andy McCluskey (vocals, bass guitar, keyboards, guitar) and Paul Humphreys (keyboards, vocals), along with recent additions Martin Cooper (keyboards, saxophone) and Stuart Kershaw (drums), will play five capital cities during their short jaunt down under.

The tour begins in Perth on Wednesday, February 12 at Red Hill Auditorium. The band then heads to Sydney where they play Enmore Theatre on Saturday, February 15 before travelling to Adelaide and performing at the AEC Theatre on Tuesday, February 18. The final two shows take place at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne on Thursday, February 20 and at Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane on Sunday, February 23.

The tour marks the band’s 45th anniversary and will see the electronic act play all their biggest hits, including ‘If You Leave’, ‘Enola Gay’, ‘Secret, Souvenir’, ‘So In Love’, ‘(Forever) Live and Die’, ‘Electricity,’ ‘Joan Of Arc (Maid Of Orleans)’ and more. OMD will also perform tracks from their most recent release, 2023s Bauhaus Staircase, the band’s fourteenth studio album.

“Finally!!! The wait is over!” frontman Andy McCluskey said in a statement. “We have tried and tried to get back to Australia for nearly forty years. We are so excited to be able to say that we are definitely going to play live again down under. We cannot wait! This is going to be so special. As it’s been such a long time since we were live in Australia we will be playing every single one of our hits and a few extra classics too!”

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark’s glory days came about during the 80s when they released four UK top ten charting albums: Organisation, Architecture & Morality, Dazzle Ships and Junk Culture. Their success diminished during the 90s, with the band calling it quits in 1996 before reforming a decade later.

While their output has been varied since getting back together, last year’s Bauhaus Staircase was their highest-charting album in the UK, reaching the #2 spot. Not only was it a commercial success, but the record was universally praised by critics, helping a whole new generation of music fans discover the band.

Early bird pre-sale tickets go on sale this Wednesday, May 1 at 8:30am local time. You can register for these tickets via Destroy All Lines. General sale tickets will be available Friday, May 3 via Destroy All Lines.
