PEARL JAM ANNOUNCE ‘DARK MATTER – ONE NIGHT ONLY’ GLOBAL LISTENING PARTIES

60 cinemas across Australia will screen the auditory and visual experience.

It’s shaping up as a big year for Australian Pearl Jam fans. Not only has the Eddie Vedder-fronted rock group announced they are playing five dates in Australia this November as part of their 2024 world, but their 12th album, Dark Matter, is released next month. On top of that, the 90s alt-act has announced fans will have the opportunity to hear the album a few days early thanks to a host of special listening parties organised for April 16.

The global theatric event entitled ‘Dark Matter – One Night Only’ is allowing fans to hear the album in full not once, but twice at special screenings in theatres. As per the press release hyping the event, those in attendance will hear the album “First in a dark cinema with just the music playing and then a second time experiencing the record with added visuals on screen during playback.” The listening party is being described as “A musical experience set to be unlike any other record premiere event.”

Over 500 theatres will be involved globally, including 60 locations across Australia. There will be two cinemas in South Australia taking part: HOYTS Cinema Tea Tree Plaza and Event Cinemas Marion. Tickers are available now via this link.

The announcement of the global listening parties coincides with Pearl Jam dropping the second single from Dark Matter, the straight-up rocker ‘Running’ (listen below).

Speaking with SPIN about the song, guitarist Stone Gossard explained that ‘Running’ was one of the last songs recorded for Dark Matter.

“Jeff had the main parts for that one, and we worked it over as a band,” Gossard said in the interview. “I love the bridge. I don’t know what the hell those chords are that [guitarist] Mike [McCready]’s playing, but it sounds original.”

You can secure your tickets for ‘Dark Matter – One Night Only’ here and grab tickets for their Australian shows via Live Nation. Dark Matter is set for release on Friday April 19.
