Scottish rockers Primal Scream return to Australia next year for a five-date national tour.

Arriving in January for their first shows since 2018, Primal Scream first made their mark in 1991 with the release of their Mercury Prize-winning third studio album, Screamadelica. The band has gone on to be one of the UK’s most successful acts, releasing 11 albums and countless hit singles.

The current lineup of sole original member Bobby Gillespie (vocals) and Andrew Innes (guitar/keyboard/backing vocals), Darrin Mooney (drums/percussion) and Simone Butler (bass/keyboard/percussion) kick off their national tour in Melbourne at the Forum on Friday, January 10.

They follow this with shows at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Saturday, January 11, Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Monday, January 13 and Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall on Tuesday, January 14. The final leg of Primal Scream’s tour takes place in Perth at Fremantle Prison on Thursday, January 16.

Fans can expect to hear all of the band’s biggest hits on tour, such as ‘Movin’ on Up’, ‘Loaded’, ‘Kill All Hippies’ and ‘Come Together’.

The Frontier Members pre-sale begins on Wednesday, September 18 at 12:30am local time. You can register your interest here. General on-sale takes place on Friday, September 20 at 9:30am local time via Frontier Touring.

Primal Scream’s Australian tour coincides with the release of the group’s much anticipated 12th album, Come Ahead. Arriving November 8 via BGM (pre-order/pre-save here), the record is led by the singles ‘Love Insurrection’ and ‘Deep Dark Waters’, the latter of which you can listen to above.

The 11-track album is the first new music from Primal Scream since 2016’s Chaosmosis, and according to frontman and songwriter Gillespie, features his most personal lyrics yet.

“I’m very excited about this album in a way that you would be making your first record. If there was an overall theme to Come Ahead it might be one of conflict, whether inner or outer,” says Gillespie in a statement about the record.

“There is also a thread of compassion running through the album. The title is a Glaswegian term. If someone threatens to fight you, you say, ‘Come ahead!’ It’s redolent of the indomitable spirit of the Glaswegian, and the album itself shares that aggressive attitude and confidence. They have a word for this up there, gallus. Come Ahead’s quite a cheeky title too.”

October will see Primal Scream perform their first live shows in the UK this year supporting the great Alice Cooper before heading to Mexico in November for the three-day festival Corona Captial, with a lineup also featuring Paul McCartney, Green Day, Jack White, Kim Gordon and more.

Catch Primal Scream at Hindley Street Music Hall on Tuesday, January 14 2025. For full ticketing information visit the Frontier Touring website.
