Toronto-based punk misfits PUP are making their way Down Under this August in support of their upcoming fifth studio album, Who Will Look After the Dogs, which drops on May 2.
The album has been described as “a culmination of the band’s past decade of constant touring and their palpable, livewire chemistry,” with the 12-track release delving into “life’s relationships and deep thoughts.”
The quartet’s ‘Do It’ Australian tour takes in five dates, beginning at Brisbane’s Princess Theatre on Friday, August 8. The lads then roll into Sydney for a gig at the Metro Theatre on Saturday, August 9, before hitting Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre on Sunday, August 10, Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall on Tuesday, August 12, and finally, Perth’s Magnet House on Thursday, August 14.
Pre-sale begins Thursday, March 27 at 8:30am local time. Register here. General on-sale takes place Friday, March 28 at 8:30am local time via destroyalllines.com.
Along with announcing the tour, PUP have shared new single, ‘Get Dumber’, featuring the talented Jeff Rosenstock, which you can watch below. Speaking on the tune, PUP’s Stefan Babcock says:
“I wrote ‘Get Dumber’ in Jeff’s basement. I was house sitting for him while he was on tour. I recorded the first demo for it on his guitar using his mics and his computer. Maybe because the ghost of Jeff was in the room with me, I always imagined our voices on this song together, so I was very happy when he agreed to sing on it.
“We recorded the vocals together, in the same room, facing each other. What that means is, we both had to nail it at the same time because we couldn’t really cut between takes. On the first take, he forgot a line in the second verse and said ‘ahhhhhh, lyrics’ instead. I couldn’t finish the take because I was laughing too hard. Anyway, he practiced singing the correct lyrics but then we decided those lyrics kinda sucked and he should just stick to ‘ahhhh lyrics’ because it’s funny and the song is called ‘Get Dumber’. We nailed it on the second take.”
