SPACE JAMS BLASTS OFF THIS WEEKEND
Blast off! SA’s beloved boutique fest Space Jams is back this weekend – have you got your ticket? Best grab one now, because this day is set to be out of this world. Here’s our guide to all the fun you can expect at Space Jams!
Two stages. 18 performances. Lots of fun. Space Jams returns to its spiritual home of Alma’s Hem for a party in one of the most stunning settings in SA. Think towering gum trees, lush grounds and a natural amphitheatre hosting some of the state’s brightest talent.
MUSIC
The music starts at 1pm with Joey Pappas and rolls on until later with DJ Josh Fade closing out the fun at 1am. “The day is all about discovery!” says festival organiser Josh Morphett. “The lineup is always a superb showcase of SA’s great musical talent – new, up-and-coming and seasoned.” Here’s who is on our must-see list:
Shodashi
‘Swamp Jazz’ is how this four-piece describe their magnetic, sultry and soulful sound. The connection between this quartet is undeniable when they groove on stage – the perfect outfit to set the tone for Space Jams.

My Chérie
Having just wrapped a standout Scouted set, My Chérie is taking her captivating pop-leaning sound to Space Jams’ Amphitheatre Stage. The award-winning singer-songwriter is mesmerising live – as is her back catalogue of songs that tackle big topics and feelings in a way that’ll make you feel seen. “She’ll have a six-piece band with her, too!” says Josh.

Dustyn
Fresh from an acclaimed debut at Adelaide Guitar Festival, Dustyn – the solo project of SA favourite and Wanderers frontman Dusty Lee Stephensen – is hitting the Tipi Stage for a set that explores feelings of happiness, sadness and love from a fresh perspective that’s soaked in imagination. “He’s playing at sunset – it’ll be a special one!”

MANE
This may be your last chance to catch MANE’s incredible vocals live! The globe-trotting, SA-made singer-songwriter is taking a beat from performing but squeezing in one more love-filled set at Space Jams. Expect soaring vocals and an explosive hit of indie-pop.

King Jeff & The How Are Yous
You know you’re in for a good time if King Jeff & The How Are Yous are playing! A ragtag crew of some of the best musos found down south, this six-piece are wild and wonderful and one of the weekend’s must-see sets. The vibes will be high and the mosh will be big!

The Empty Threats
The Empty Threats are continuing to dominate 2024, headlining Space Jams after wrapping an extensive EU tour. “The Empty Threats are an enigma of their own and so good to experience live,” says Josh of his headline pick. Expect pulsing noise rock, piercing lyrics and one of the most potent live shows this side of the hemisphere.

ENTERTAINMENT
There’s so much more to Space Jams than live music! The boutique festival is all about community, with plenty of market stalls with artisan-made goods for you to pursue throughout the day. What’s more, there’ll be a pop-up tattooist, art installations, live painting and a fire performance from Dragon Mill. Taking your little tackers along? Make sure you check out The Plai Space at the family-friendly event.
Of course, Space Jams is a camping festival ,too. Set up your site before dancing all night to the Tipi DJ sets that play late into the night.
FOOD & DRINK
Long-time friends of Space Jams, Imperial Measures Distilling and Pirate Life will be back at Alma’s Hem pouring the best of their craft booze brilliance. Fever Tree tonic has also joined in on the fun – the perfect mixer to a nip of Imperial’s boutique gin. Aldinga favourite Big Easy Radio will also be pouring their standout tipples to thirsty punters. And that’s not all! There are plenty of tasty non-alc drops for you to get around, too.
As for food, Chimichurri Grill is rolling through and setting up a massive Argentinian grill for Space Jams’ goers to devour – expect generous servings packed with flavour. Friwi Crepes & Co will also be serving some tasty crepes and Landough’s will be on donut duty. Staying over? Refresh in the morning with big cups of coffee and Sunday brekky courtesy of Brighton faves CREAM. Delish!
