After an eight-year hiatus, The Taxpayers have reformed and announced their first-ever Australian tour.

The DIY punk folksters incorporate a wide range of genres into their quirky compositions, with the Portland act’s long-awaited visit to our shores coming after they reformed and sold out shows across North America and Canada earlier this year.

The Taxpayers' November and December tour of Australia begins with frontman Rob Taxpayer performing two solo shows in Brisbane – the first is an afternoon show on Saturday, November 16 as part of the 4zzz Carpark AA show with Andy Paine and Jodie Flange, followed by an 18+ gig at PFR Lounge that same evening with Bushed Poetry.

Then it’s on to Hobart for the HOBOFOPO Folkpunk Fest on Saturday, November 23 followed by a secret afternoon show on Monday, November 25 at Red Square. The Taxpayers continue the tour with gigs at Sydney’s Lazybones Lounge on Thursday, November 28, Canberra’s The Polo on Friday, November 29, Melbounre’s The Gaso on Saturday, November 30, and Adelaide’s Crown & Anchor on Sunday, December 1.

Tickets for all shows are on sale now via The Taxpayers’ website.

Calling themselves “a DIY punk band” who “do other stuff too,” The Taxpayers have amassed a cult following since forming in 2007. They broke out with the 2012 concept album God, Forgive These Bastards, about a fictional baseball player.

The current lineup of Rob Taxpayer (vocals, guitar, piano, clarinet), Andrew Taxpayer (guitar, banjo, melodica), Kevin Taxpayer (trumpet, piano, organ, glockenspiel), Alex Saxplayer (saxophone), Nasrene Taxpayer (vocals, bass, accordion) and Noah Taxpayer (percussion), have close to 1 million monthly Spotify listens and are hyped to be making the trek Down Under.

“This is so exciting. Our first international excursion. This is gonna be legendary. They're gonna write about this in the annals of history,” the band posted on their Instagram account.

“No bigger concerts will ever exist beyond these ones. They will be the final concerts of any kind, by any band. Cause everyone is gonna want to quit playing music after this. We are probably better off for this. I have heard some of the music y'all listen to. Not good. But these shows will either be soooo amazing that no one will want to contend or they will be so utter dog shit, we just cancel music.

”So what I am trying to say, is go to these shows. Hop on a plane or in a car or on a bike, fuck it, swim to these shows. Australia: you're lucky to be a part of this history.”

Catch The Taxpayers at Crown & Anchor on Sunday, December 1. Tickets on sale now via Moshtix.
