Irish artist and activist Bob Geldof returns to Australian shores in 2025 as he celebrates the 40th anniversary of Live Aid, the iconic 1985 charity event he was responsible for creating.

Throughout his life, Geldof has achieved many things, both as a musician and a philanthropist. As a member of The Boomtown Rats, he topped the UK charts in the late 70s with singles ‘Rat Trap’ and ‘I Don't Like Mondays’ before going on to have his own successful solo career that’s spawned five albums.
These days he is better known for his charity efforts, having first made an impact with the song ‘Do They Know It's Christmas?’, performed by Band Aid – a supergroup of musicians that included the likes of Bono, Phil Collins, George Michael and Sting. The song raised over £8 million that went towards helping those in West Africa fight the Ebola virus.
The success of the song led to Geldof creating Live Aid, a huge musical event staged simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia on July 13, 1985.
Live Aid featured performances from Elvis Costello, Sade, Queen, Elton John, Black Sabbath, Pretenders, Madonna and more, raising over a whopping £150 million which was used to provide relief from hunger and poverty for the people of Ethiopia.
Geldof would go on to release several more charity singles and stage more benefit concerts over the journey, spending much of the past 15 years focused on his charity endeavours.
