Record Store Day is like Christmas for vinyl collectors and this year there are plenty of awesome gifts stacked under the tree. Taking place on Saturday, April 20, record stores worldwide will be sent a random assortment of limited edition records to sell on the day. To get you excited, the first official international and local release list for Record Store Day Australia has finally arrived, and it's a pearler.
The epic list, which will continue to be updated until the day of the event, includes re-releases, limited editions and all manner of special coloured vinyl surprises. Some of the standout records include a 140g 12" picture vinyl single of French electronic duo Air’s 1998 tune ‘Kelly Watch the Stars’, a transparent vinyl of La Roux’s Trouble in Paradise LP and a special Record Store Day 180g Black vinyl album of David Bowie’s Waiting in the Sky (Before the Starman Came to Earth).
So far there have only been three Australian titles announced - a blue double LP of Ian Moss’ Live At the Enmore, a saffron yellow vinyl of Montaigne’s Glorious Heights and an exclusive Record Store Day red vinyl of Sons of the East’s Palomar Parade record.
If you’re wondering what local record stores are participating this year, we have you covered. Clarity Records, Streetlight Adelaide, Rerun Records, Holy Vinyl, Rocktherapy Records, Porch Records, Twelve Inches and Singles Records, Music Mooves & Music and Port Lincoln Music World are all getting involved this year. There are sure to be more stores taking part so next time you drop into your favourite store, ask them if they will be slinging any limited edition vinyl this Record Store Day.
