Then it’s off to Melbourne for two concerts at Hamer Hall with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra on Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 20. Three shows at a yet-to-be-announced venue in Sydney will take place on Friday, May 23, Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25, before Sigur Rós end their run of one-of-a-kind orchestral shows with the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra at Brisbane’s QPAC Concert Hall on Tuesday, May 27.

Sigur Rós’ Australian tour arrives two years after the trio of Jónsi, Georg Holm, and the returning Kjartan Sveinsson got back together for their eighth album, Átta. Recorded at the famed Abbey Road Studios, the album strips the band’s sound back to the core and features arrangements by Robert Ames and the 32-piece London Contemporary Orchestra.

Reflecting on a post-pandemic world, Átta is arguably the band’s most intimate record yet. A critical success signalling a new era for Sigur Rós, the album spawned just one single, the chilling seven-minute wonder, ‘Blóðberg’.

Alongside Björk, Sigur Rós are Iceland’s greatest musical export. With eight albums to their name, including six that went straight to the top of the Icelandic Album Chart, the trio have established themselves as post-rock pioneers, crafting atmospheric lullabies anchored by subtle instrumentation and vocalist Jónsi’s heartbreaking falsetto.

Having performed at the world’s biggest festivals, including Coachella, Glastonbury, and Lollapalooza, and sold out concerts around the world, Sigur Rós are one of the most in-demand bands and one act you don’t want to miss when they touch down in Australia next year.

Catch Sigur Rós with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra at AEC Theatre on Saturday, May 17. For full ticketing information visit Sigur Rós’s website.
