Juju and Psycho Les – who are also peripheral members of the legendary Native Tongues – have booked six shows across New Zealand and Australia.
After performing at Neck of the Woods in Auckland on Wednesday, August 7, The Beatnuts make their way to Australia for five shows, kicking things off at The Back Room in Brisbane on Thursday, August 8.
The Beatnuts then play Underground UTS in Sydney on Friday, August 9, Laundry in Melbourne on Saturday, August 10, Zhivago in Adelaide on Thursday, August 15 and The Rechabite in Perth on Friday, August 16.
Tickets for all shows are on sale now via The Ticket Fairy.
Originally formed in the late 80s, The Beatnuts didn’t break through until 1997 when they dropped their sophomore album, Stone Crazy. Containing the hit singles ‘Do You Believe’ and ‘Off the Books’, a collaboration with Big Pun and Cuban Link, Stone Crazy didn’t make a dent on the charts but was well received by fans of underground hip hop.
Although not as critically revered as many of their 90s peers, The Beatnuts released albums until the early 00s (their last full length record was 2004s Milk Me) and have continued to perform live sporadically, amassing a solid fanbase over the years.
In 2016 they formed the Liknuts with West Coast hip hop group Tha Alkaholiks and found themselves going viral in 2022 when they re-released a remixed version of their 1999 song ‘Se Acabo’. Featuring a guest verse from Method Man, the song became a TikTok hit and introduced The Beatnuts to a new audience of fans.
Tickets for The Beatnuts’ Adelaide show at Zhivago are on sale now via The Ticket Fairy.
