AFL Gather Round is all about the football, but music is becoming an increasingly pleasant by-product of the festivities. After Jet and Baker Boy were announced as the musical headliners of the inaugural Gather Live concert, another incredible Australian act is playing Adelaide Gather Round weekend.
The Temper Trap has been announced as the musical guest for this year’s Norwood Food & Wine Festival. This is the first time the festival has taken place since 2012, with the AFL keen to offer punters more non-football experiences and activities while visiting Adelaide.
Taking place from 11 am to 8 pm on Sunday 7 April along The Parade, the festival is being incorporated into this year’s Gather Round program. Fans and locals can enjoy some of South Australia’s best food and beverages before heading to Norwood Oval and watching St. Kilda take on the Tigers at 2:40 pm.
Once the match is finished, fans can catch a free performance from The Temper Trap, with support coming from local musicians including the Dusty Lee Band and Motel Music.
The Temper Trap lead singer Dougy Mandagi said the band looked forward to performing at the Norwood Food & Wine Festival.
“We love coming to South Australia – a state that loves festivals, having good times and of course footy,” Mandagi said.
“We’ve done some really cool things with the AFL over the years, and we’re excited to play at the Norwood Food & Wine Festival during AFL Gather Round. Look forward to seeing you there.”
Although eight of the nine games are sold out, the AFL has announced a limited number of tickets will be released for all matches at 1 pm on Thursday 21 March. These tickets will no doubt sell out fast, so be sure to keep an eye on the Ticketek website for further details.
AFL CEO Andrew Dillon is also excited about the entertainment organised for Gather Round.
“With eight matches sold out across Gather Round already, we are thrilled to announce a limited release of tickets to all matches will go on sale for fans this Thursday,” Dillon said.
“The countdown to Gather Round has officially commenced and we’ve seen an unprecedented level of interest for this year’s Festival of Football in Adelaide.
“In response to this demand, we will see entertainment offerings throughout the city rise to another level. The Norwood Food & Wine Festival on Sunday is sure to be one of the highlights, and we’re excited to have The Temper Trap on board to get the party started.”
South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas is also pumped for the return of the Norwood Food & Wine Festival.
“We know how much local and visiting footy fans loved Gather Round last year, and now we’re making it even bigger,” Premier Malinauskas said.
“South Australians will well remember the Norwood Food & Wine Festival. Now, in the context of Gather Round, it becomes a prime opportunity to showcase our state’s amazing food and wine to the rest of the country, amidst music and roving entertainment.
“It will be fun, free to enter and the perfect celebration of our state and what it shares with the world.”
The remaining tickets for Gather Round will go on sale at 1 pm this Thursday 21 March via Ticketek.
