Over the weekend (September 1) DJ and rapper Fatman Scoop, real name Isaac Freeman III, passed away after collapsing on stage. The ‘Be Faithful’ hitmaker was performing at Connecticut’s Hamden Town Central Park when he fell to the stage unconscious.

No cause of death has been given, with authorities only revealing he suffered a medical emergency. He was 53 years old.

News of his death was confirmed by his tour manager Birch Michael who released this statement: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I announce the passing of Isaac Freeman III. You taught me how to be the man I am today. I love you Scoop. Thank you so much for everything you gave to me.”

A longer statement was shared by his family on social media: “Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life. Fatman Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and friend.

“Fatman Scoop’s legacy is of love and brightness, it will reside in our hearts and memories forever.”

Rising to fame in the early 90s with his club anthem ‘Be Faithful’, Fatman Scoop continued to release music and tour throughout the 00s, collaborating with the likes of Missy Elliot, Mariah Carey and David Guetta.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Freeman’s family and friends during this tough period.

Gut Health Share New Single ‘Stiletto’

As the days get closer to the release of Gut Health’s debut album, the dance-punk ensemble has shared the title track ‘Stiletto’.

The nearly eight-minute-long song is a probing blast of wiley guitars and troubling sax that descends into a nightmarish jazz-rock jam. A live favourite, the song also closes Gut Health’s forthcoming record, which arrives October 11 via Highly Contagious/AWAL.

‘Stiletto’ rages against modern capitalist Australia and demands the voices of Indigenous people be heard. “The recording took a lot of trial and error to feel realised in its recorded form as often these elements are more improvisational in their live form,” Gut Health shares, “we just kept layering more and more until the end of the song felt unrecognisable from where it began.”

Accompanying the single is a music video directed by Renee Kyprotis that was shot between Coburg Velodrome and Cool Studios on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung land.

Gut Health is also embarking on a national tour in support of the album this September and October, performing in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, with Adelaide sadly missing out.
